Brief and answer:
Design fun and exciting pages for 6-11 years for Whizz Pop Bang science magazine, including spreads for News, Interview, Quiz, How Stuff Works, the centre Pull-out four-pager and the Letters spread which I completely redesigned and refreshed with the team to be a futuristic and flexible template in the style of robot Y’s inner workings. I enjoyed working with the fab illustrator Clive Goodyer to liaise on layout development notes, as well as a brilliant editorial team with a great grasp on detail. The amends and proofing process also required me to have attention to detail and communicate promptly and update layout visuals to their remote proofing process software.
For each of issues 24-31, Whizz Pop Bang pages asked from me fresh thinking and evolution, plus an ability in juggling many things since three issues are worked on simultaneously at different stages. The Pull-out pages needed careful layout alignment for double-sided cut-out elements so they worked in practice. The design process also involved improving some supplied photos, ‘hiding’ icons for readers to find and artworking the InDesign files to print-ready PDF supply to press.
